 The AFL-CIO Department of Education publishes a "Guide to Union-Sponsored Scholarships, Awards and Student Financial Aid" to help union members and their families find ways to cover the costs of college and other post -secondary education. Joseph A. Archambeault Memorial Scholarship
Our Local 670 Scholarship
AWARDS Seven (7) One-time awards of $400.00 each.
ELIGIBILITY The awards will be based on academic performance for seniors graduating in June. Only dependents of Local 670 members are eligible for these awards.
ACCEPTANCE
CRITERIA
It was a unanimous decision to award the scholarships based solely on merit. The committee members do not select the winners; they evaluate the scores provided by the schools.
DEADLINE No later than April 6th. (The winners will be selected in May)

CSEA Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship
(Statewide Scholarship)
AWARDS CSEA awards eighteen (18) $1,000 (Flaumenbaum) and two (2) $2,500 (one JLT & one MetLife) Scholarships annually to high school seniors.
ELIGIBILITY Open to children of CSEA-represented employees who are seniors in high school.
ACCEPTANCE

Academic record, school activities, outside work experience, community involvement, financial need, career goals, etc.
JLT &
MetLife
Based on scholastic achievement, the award is drawn from the top 2% of Flaumenbaum applicants. The JLT Award will go to a student entering the SUNY system. The MetLife Award has no such limitation.
DEADLINE April 17th

HISTORY Irving Flaumenbaum was a CSEA activist for more than 30 years. At the time of his death he was characterized as a "tireless unionist, a spirited leader and a true friend of all public employees".

Union Plus Credit Card
(AFSCME AND AFL-CIO SCHOLARSHIPS)
AWARDS A total of $150,000 in scholarships is awarded through the Union Plus Credit Card Scholarship Award Program. The awards are for no less than $500. and no more than $4,000.
ELIGIBILITY Members, their spouses and their children are eligible. Eligibility also extends to foster children, stepchildren and adopted children, but excludes grandchildren and graduate students. Members must have at least one year of continuous good-standing membership in CSEA/AFSCME in order for spouses and children to be eligible. Members need not be Credit Card cardholders to apply
ACCEPTANCE
CRITERIA
Applicants must be accepted into an accredited college or community college or a recognized technical or trade school. An impartial committee of post-secondary school educators will make the awards based on such factors as academic achievement and potential, character, leadership, social awareness, career goals and financial need.
DEADLINE Program opens in September and closes in January, but deadline dates vary. Winners are announced March 31st.

AFSCME Family Scholarship Program
(AFSCME AND AFL-CIO SCHOLARSHIPS)
AWARDS Ten scholarships of $2,000. each are awarded annually. Once awarded, the scholarships will be renewed for $2,000 each year for a maximum of four years provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time course of study.
ELIGIBILITY Any graduating high school senior who is a daughter or son of an active CSEA/AFSCME member, (or whose legal guardian is an active CSEA/AFSCME member) and who intends to enroll in a full-time, four-year degree program in any accredited college or university, is eligible to apply for a scholarship. The scholarship may be used for any field of study.
ACCEPTANCE
CRITERIA
Based on academic record, high school activities and written essay on "What AFSCME has Meant to our Family".
DEADLINE Postmarked no later than December 31st.
